Our mission rests firmly on the Gospel of Jesus Christ, as expressed in the creeds and confessions of the Church (The Book of Concord), which is summarized in the following bullet points. While we are creative and innovative in our ministry style and presentation of God's Word, we are firmly committed to a conservative theology that is unchanging.
-
We believe in the Triune God - God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. We acknowledge one God in three persons.
-
We believe that God the Father created the universe in six days. He is loving, compassionate, just, and kind. His deepest desire is to live in an intimate relationship with all of His people.
-
We believe that, because of His desire to live in a relationship with us, God became a human being. Jesus Christ, born of a virgin, is fully God and fully man. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus made it possible for all people to live in a relationship with God by taking the punishment we deserved for our sin. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Through Him, and Him alone, can people enter into a relationship with God and into eternal life.
-
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the presence of Jesus Christ among us. Through Him, God loves us, empowers us and lives in us. The Spirit gives gifts to all believers and calls us to use them in service to Christ and His church.
-
We believe that the church is God's chosen instrument to accomplish His work on earth. Jesus lives and works through His people organized and gathered around His three means of working - God's Word, Baptism, and the Lord's Supper.
-
We believe that the Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God. We believe the Bible is historically accurate and true and contains no myths or contradictions. God's Spirit works through the Word of God to move and act in the hearts of people and in the world today. It is the only source and norm of Christian doctrine.
-
We believe in the practice of the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion. We believe that through the waters of Baptism, God comes to us to adopt us as His children. This gift is for all people - infants, children and adults - and is a visible and concrete assurance for God's people to be confident of God's calling in their lives.
-
We believe that through the Lord's Supper, Jesus is present in, with, and under bread and wine. Through this gift God gives the forgiveness of sins, strengthening of faith, and fellowship with Him and other believers. Through participation in this meal, we make public profession of our faith. We believe that God's grace is a free gift and that we can do nothing to earn God's favor or love.
-
We believe that God's grace is a free gift and that we can do nothing to earn God's favor or love. He will never love us less and cannot love us more. We believe that humans have the ability to choose evil. But we do not have the ability to choose to have spiritual life. The only way to live in God's righteousness is by the power of the Holy Spirit working in us. The Holy Spirit raises us from spiritual death and keeps us spiritually alive.
-
We believe all people are sinful by nature and are born as natural enemies of God. Even after becoming a Christian, we have a sinful nature that is opposed to the will of God. That is the reason we celebrate the good news of Jesus Christ and the forgiveness He gives to us. The good news of Jesus Christ is the only power to change the hearts of people.
-
We believe in and anticipate the return of Jesus Christ. Though we don't know the day or the hour, we live with the urgency of sharing the message of Jesus with all people.
