Other Mission Opportunities
Missions are a big part of the Kingdom of God: "Go and make disciples of all nations..." What a joy and privilege to be in active pursuit of reaching out with love and service to God’s precious children, right here at home... in our community... and around the world. Here are some additional Mission Opportunities outside of Messiah. Mission Opportunities Short Term (MOST) Mission Opportunities Short Term (MOST) is a Lutheran Organization based in Ann Arbor, Michigan that facilitates groups who are looking for opportunities to serve LCMS missionaries, partner churches and related charitable organizations throughout the world. Messiah has been blessed to partner with MOST in a variety of ways (church construction, English/VBS camps, and eyeglass clinics) on trips to Guatemala, Russia, Puerto Rico, China and Poland. MOST will be happy to connect you to a mission team. Central American Lutheran Mission Society (CALMS) CALMS is dedicated to building the capacity of Central and North American churches and their members to advance God's mission and to grow in numbers and discipleship. They accomplish this by providing mission consultation services to Central American churches and organizations and by designing and facilitating strategic, cross-cultural short-term mission projects. These projects seek to involve Christian leaders and groups in the USA with their Central American brothers and sisters so they can work side by side to advance God's mission. With God’s Little Ones With God’s Little Ones seeks to make a difference in the lives of orphans, endangered children, and widows in selected locations. They encourage gifted individuals to share their resources for improving the welfare of the children and disadvantaged throughout the world. Kids Against Hunger An international food relief campaign, Kids Against Hunger (KAH) is a volunteer-driven effort to package and distribute food in communities worldwide where hunger and starvation are rampant. A satellite station, located in St. Charles, as well as a mobile unit that can come to your event, allows everyone to be able to assist in packaging and preparing food for distribution. OASIS Food Pantry The O.A.S.I.S. Food Pantry serves the needs of Saint Charles County residents. We offer a variety of fresh, frozen and canned foodstuffs, as well as basic hygiene items, free of charge to qualified recipients. We also maintain a Thrift Store where anyone can obtain basic household items and clothing at a very low cost. Habitat for Humanity Habitat for Humanity St. Louis is one of more than 1,800 worldwide affiliates of Habitat for Humanity International. They bring families and communities in need together with volunteers and resources to build decent, affordable housing. Their houses are sold with no profit made. Homeowners contribute “sweat equity”, and house payments are recycled to building additional houses. Orphan Grain Train Orphan Grain Train is a Christian volunteer network that shares personal and material resources with needy people in America and around the world. Locally, they may be reached at: missouri-illinois.div@ogt.org |
